Invisalign aligners are made of a patented material called SmartTrack. SmartTrack is a triple-layered material that is soft and pliable, yet tough and durable. The material is also transparent, so it is virtually invisible when worn.

Most other brands of clear aligners are made of polyurethane (PU) or PETG. PETG is a clear, strong, and heat-resistant plastic that is often used in food packaging. It is also used in some brands of aligners because it is easier to mold than PU. Illusion Aligners and ClearCorrect are two brands that use PETG in their aligners.


Teeth aligners are made of Aligner trays, which are made of a specially created, FDA-approved, and BPA-free polyurethane resin plastic. This more durable plastic is resistant to cracks and stains, so the aligners remain clear even after use. This makes them less visible in a person's mouth.


Most aligners are made of a plastic called polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA). This plastic has the same properties as Plexiglas, acrylics, synthetic gems, and lenses - it is transparent, durable, and strong. Some aligners are even made of polyethersulfone (PES), which is often used in food containers. PES aligners are transparent, but they are not as strong as PMMA aligners. PES aligners may be considered delicate and might break if misused or chewed on by young children. This may cause discomfort as they are stiffer than other aligners.
