Why prefer Aligners over Braces?

Updated: Aug 23, 2022

Today, Orthodontic treatments have become more common than ever. Everyone wants perfect-looking teeth and good health.

But often, orthodontic problems arise such as misalignment of teeth or overcrowded teeth. Usually, poor dental health and various other problems like plaque formation, cavities, chewing problems, etc. are caused because of this. No one wants to suffer because of poor dental health, especially when they have a simple solution with them.

There are 2 ways to correct dental misalignment, namely aligners and braces.

The choice between the two lies in our hands.

Various factors are there that need to be analyzed before making a choice- cost of the treatment, comfort while undergoing the treatment, time taken for the treatment completion, your dental health, etc.

It can become a tough choice, but these days most people are choosing aligners over the traditional metal braces and there are many reasons for that:

1. Almost invisible

While metal braces are extremely prominent on your teeth, aligners are hard to spot. They are almost invisible in nature. They are transparent and when worn on teeth, a naked eye can't spot it easily. So, aligners would be the best option if you are someone who wants to correct their teeth but also doesn't want people to know.

2. Easier to improve your dental health

Unlike metal braces, you can easily remove your aligners at the time of brushing your teeth. This ensures that your teeth are cleaned regularly and continuously. In the case of braces, regular maintenance of oral hygiene becomes challenging

3. Take lesser time in aligning teeth

No one wants braces or aligners on their teeth for a long period of time.

Aligners may take take 6 -18 months to finish the treatment, the time line depends on the complexity of the procedure and provide you with the perfect smile that you desired making it a quick procedure.

4. No diet Restrictions

One of the major advantages of aligners is that it comes with no diet restrictions. Since they are easily removable, you can have anything and everything without the fear of getting food stuck in your wires or brackets.

5. Comfortable

Braces and long wires have a high chance of causing ulcers if they are not trimmed accurately and can possibly prick the inside of your mouth. Clear aligners have the advantage of not having sharp edges and therefore are known to be more comfortable. Unlike braces, which are required to be tightened every now and then, aligners are monitored by the doctors before they provide you with your next set of aligners in your treatment series.

Knowing such things eventually makes aligners a better choice among people having teeth alignment issues. Not only are aligners comfortable and convenient, but they also do not compromise your oral hygiene at the expense of being minimalist.
